Lahore Qalandars suffer fifth consecutive defeat, Peshawar Zalmi win by 8 runs

LAHORE: Peshawar Zalmi defeated defending champions Lahore Qalandars by 8 runs in an exciting 12th match of the Pakistan Super League.

Chasing a target of 212 runs, Lahore Qalandars’ team scored 203 runs thanks to a century by Rassie van der Dussen.

This is Lahore Qalandars’ fifth consecutive defeat in the current PSL, they have not won a single match yet.

In the match played at the Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Lahore Qalandars’ captain Shaheen Afridi won the toss and invited Peshawar Zalmi to bat.

Haris Rauf was ruled out of PSL 9 due to injury as he had injured his shoulder while catching in the match against Karachi Kings at the Qaddafi Stadium on January 24.

Batting first on Lahore’s invitation, Peshawar Zalmi scored 211 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

A brilliant partnership of 136 runs was formed between openers Babar and Saim Ayub, Saim scored a brilliant half-century. Babar scored 48 and Saim scored 88 runs.

In addition, Romain Paul played a smoky innings of 46 runs off 20 balls, Asif Ali was out for 6 runs while Muhammad Haris and Walter remained unbeaten on 12 and 2 runs respectively.

Shaheen Afridi took 3 and Jahandad Khan took one wicket for Lahore Qalandars.

In pursuit of Zalmi’s target of 212 runs, Lahore Qalandars’ team scored 203 runs in the allotted 20 overs.

Dussen scored the first century of HBL, PSL 9 for Qalandars, he scored a century with the help of 6 sixes and 7 fours but his unbeaten innings of 104 runs also did not give Qalandars their first success.

In addition, Shai Hope scored 29, Ahsan Hafeez 20 and Sahebzada Farhan scored 15 runs, Jahandad Khan 13, Fakhar Zaman 4 and Sikandar Raza scored one run.

Naveen ul Haq took out 2 players for Zalmi, Luke Wood, Paul Walter and Salman Irshad took one wicket each.

It may be recalled that Lahore Qalandars have not won a single match in the tournament so far, they have faced consecutive defeats in 5 matches.

Peshawar Zalmi have played 4 matches so far, in which they have lost 2 and won 2.

Earlier on Sunday, in the first match played, Multan Sultans defeated Quetta Gladiators by 13 runs to clinch their fourth victory in the event.
