Lahore sees slight improvement in air quality; cold, dry weather continues to grip the country


The weather across Pakistan will experience a huge shift as cold and dry condition dominate most regions on Saturday.

WEB DESK: The city of Lahore recorded a marginal decrease in its overall air pollution levels, yet it remains among the world’s most polluted urban centers, currently ranked fourth globally. According to the latest data, the city’s overall Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 195.

However, significant pollution hotspots persist within the city. The Civil Secretariat area recorded a hazardous AQI of 512, while the Barki area registered 458. The Askari 10 area reported a relatively lower, but still unhealthy, AQI of 244.

Simultaneously, a cold wave continues to grip the city. The Meteorological Department reported a current temperature of 11 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature recorded in the early morning was 8 degrees Celsius, with a maximum expected to reach 22 degrees Celsius during the day while winds are blowing at a speed of 8 kilometers per hour.

Dry, cold weather continues

In Peshawar, the weather is forecast to remain dry and cold. The city’s temperature is expected to drop to as low as 3 degrees Celsius. The humidity level in the air was recorded at 49 percent.

The Met Office further stated that Peshawar, along with the districts of Swabi, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan, will remain enveloped in fog during the morning and evening hours. The upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to have partly cloudy skies.
