Lahore under tight security for second day of Eid; Sunday church prayers

Eid Day II

Authorities in Lahore have implemented strict security measures on the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr, placing police forces on high alert to ensure public safety amid large gatherings at recreational spots and places of worship.

SECURITY TIGHTENED AT PUBLIC SPACES

According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamiana, security has been significantly increased at parks, entertainment venues, and other public locations to protect families celebrating the holiday.

Kamiana said a zero-tolerance policy toward violations of law, particularly dangerous activities such as one-wheeling. “Law-breaking will be dealt with with iron hands,” he stated, directing all police personnel to remain vigilant and actively perform their duties.

Traffic police have also been instructed to ensure smooth flow on major roads and highways, as increased movement is expected during the festive period. Officers have been ordered to closely monitor suspicious activity, especially around crowded venues.

HIGH ALERT AT CHURCHES

In parallel, heightened security has been ordered at churches across Punjab, including those in Lahore, where Christian communities are holding prayer services.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rao Abdul Karim has directed Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to strengthen security arrangements at all places of worship.

Supervisory officers have been instructed to personally inspect security setups at sensitive locations. Additional police deployment has been ensured at high-risk churches, with orders to position snipers where necessary.

Specialised units, including the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force teams, have been tasked with conducting effective patrols around churches and nearby areas.

Authorities have stressed that all deployed personnel must remain highly alert and maintain a close watch on any suspicious or potentially harmful activity.
