LAHORE: Hold onto your kite strings, Lahore! The city that already knows how to celebrate Basant safely has been given even more time to soar. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that this year, rooftops can remain a sea of colorful kites until 5 AM, up from the earlier midnight cutoff.

In a statement issued through her social media, Maryam Nawaz praised Lahoris for their responsible celebration, saying, “This extension is a reward for the people of Lahore for celebrating Basant with great discipline and for responsibly following all safety SOPs.”

The festival saw rooftops alive with kite-flying competitions, families enjoying food fests, and the air buzzing with excitement. Thanks to strict adherence to safety guidelines, like avoiding prohibited strings, transformers stayed safe across the city, proving that fun and responsibility can go hand in hand.

The government didn’t leave anything to chance. With 200 mobile clinics and 21 field hospitals stationed across Liberty, Inner City, and other areas, every corner of Lahore was prepared for emergencies, ensuring that the festival remained joyous and secure.

CM Maryam Nawaz also hinted that the “Safe Basant” model pioneered in Lahore could soon be rolled out in other cities, making responsible kite-flying a nationwide trend.

So, gear up, Lahore! With kites in the sky and happiness all around, the city is ready to celebrate Basant well into the early hours of the morning. Just remember: follow the rules and stay safe!
