GILGIT: The people of Gilgit-Baltistan were showered with warm tributes and heartfelt felicitations on the occasion of their 78th Independence Day, as top government leaders praised their courage, resilience and unwavering love for Pakistan.
National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and Safron, Engr Amir Muqam, both extended their greetings to the people of the region, calling November 1 a day of pride and remembrance.
In his message, Ayaz Sadiq said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan wrote a golden chapter in history when they rose against the Dogra rulers in 1947 and liberated their homeland. He said their struggle stood as a shining example of bravery and devotion to Pakistan, noting that their decision to join the country reflected an unshakable bond rooted in faith and patriotism.
He paid homage to the martyrs and heroes of the freedom movement, saying their sacrifices continue to inspire future generations. The Speaker added that the federal government remained dedicated to improving the lives of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan through better education, healthcare and job opportunities.
“The people of Gilgit-Baltistan have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the nation,” he said. “Their love for Pakistan is reflected in their unity, determination and continued role in the country’s progress.”
Federal Minister Amir Muqam, in a separate statement, also congratulated the people of Gilgit-Baltistan on their Independence Day, describing it as a historic day marking both liberation and loyalty. He said the region’s people celebrate independence twice each year — once on August 14 with the rest of the country and again on November 1 to honour their own freedom.
He called November 1 a symbol of courage, when the people of Gilgit-Baltistan chose to align their destiny with Pakistan. The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the region’s development, highlighting its strategic importance in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its growing reputation as a global tourist destination.
Muqam also expressed solidarity with the people of Occupied Kashmir and Palestine, saying their struggles for freedom and justice remain close to Pakistan’s heart. He lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces for defending the nation’s sovereignty and ensuring peace in the northern frontiers.
“The progress of Gilgit-Baltistan is the progress of Pakistan,” he said, pledging continued efforts for the region’s prosperity.
