WEB DESK: Lebanon’s Ambassador to the United States, Nada Hamadeh Moawad, has described her initial encounter with her Israeli counterpart at the U.S. State Department as “positive.”
Speaking following the landmark discussions in Washington, Moawad expressed her gratitude to the American government for facilitating the dialogue, which marks a significant diplomatic step amidst the ongoing regional instability, according to Washington Post.
Sovereignty and the cessation of hostilities
During the briefing, Ambassador Moawad underscored the critical importance of adhering to the framework established in the November 2024 cessation of hostilities agreement.
She emphasised that the full implementation of this accord is essential for safeguarding Lebanon’s territorial integrity and ensuring the complete restoration of state sovereignty.
The Ambassador’s remarks reflect a growing diplomatic push to move beyond temporary truces toward a more stable and legally binding resolution that respects national borders.
Humanitarian urgency and civilian return
Beyond the geopolitical framework, the Ambassador issued a poignant call for an immediate ceasefire to halt the current cycle of violence.
She highlighted the “worsening humanitarian crisis” that has gripped the region, advocating for concrete international action to provide relief.
Central to her message was the safe and dignified return of displaced civilians to their homes. While specific timelines remain fluid, officials confirmed that details regarding the next round of talks are expected to be announced in the coming days.
