LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday allowed the two daughters of Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, to meet their mother in jail, while summoning the Lahore deputy commissioner in person on November 4 over the extension of detention orders against Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan.

Justice Abher Gul Khan issued the directions while hearing petitions filed by Sakina and Shahrez challenging the extension of detention orders against the women.

The court ordered that Noreen Niazi’s two daughters be allowed to meet her in jail at 10am on Tuesday for one hour. It directed their counsel to submit an application to the deputy commissioner, instructing the official to arrange the meeting upon receiving the request.

During the hearing, the Punjab government’s counsel informed the court that Noreen Niazi had received treatment at a hospital and was shifted back to jail on doctors’ advice. The government lawyer further told the court that Hajra Niazi had already met her mother on October 29 while she was undergoing treatment.

The court also directed the Lahore deputy commissioner to appear in person on November 4 to explain the extension of the detention orders against Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan.

Meanwhile, the court sought a response on a petition challenging the extension of Aleema Khan’s detention and adjourned its hearing until next week.

The home secretary submitted a report during the proceedings in compliance with an earlier court order.
