LHC bars Punjab govt, DCs from issuing detention orders

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday barred the Punjab government and deputy commissioners from issuing dention orders till December 5.

The high court also declared null and void a notification issued by the Punjab government banning transfer and postings of public servants.

LHC judge Justice Amjad Rafiq announced the verdict reserved on a petition filed by a citizen who said the article 2-A of the constitution should be changed which is used by the provincial government against poltical opponents.

After the arguments, the court barred the Punjab government and deputy commissioners from issuing detention orders till December 5.

The court also declared null and void the notification issued by the Punjab government banning tarnsfer and postings of public servants.

On March 1, the Punjab government had imposed a ban on transfer and postings of government employees.
