LHC orders release of Sher Afzal Marwat

LAHORE: Lahore High Court declaring the arrest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat as illegal has ordered his immediate release.

The court has ordered the Deputy Commissioner to release him after he submits a surety bond.

Justice Shahram Sarwar Chaudhry heard an application challenging the detention orders of Sher Afzal Marwat.

The court had sought responses from all the parties.

The petition had argued that Marwat was detained illegally.

The government lawyer earlier submitted a response, arguing that the applicant must get in touch with the relevant forum against the detention. The detention order was issued by the deputy commissioner, it said, adding that an application must first be submitted to the government.

The response also asked the court to turn down the petition against Marwat’s detention.

Sher Afzal Marwat on Thursday was arrested by Lahore Police from outside the Lahore High Court (LHC).

“Marwat was leaving the high court premises after attending a lawyers’ convention when a heavy contingent of police overpowered him and dragged him by his collar to a police vehicle on The Mall,” PTI lawyers alleged.

According to police, the PTI leader was arrested under 3MPO and shifted to Mazang police station
