WEB DESK: American singer and pop star Lizzo shocked fans and music infustry alike with her announcement of “quitting” due to feeling “targeted” for her looks and character online on Saturday.
The singer shared a post on social media platform Instagram, stating that she felt the “world doesn’t want [her] in it”.
While Lizzo did not specify whether this decision pertains to her music career or social media presence, her post comes amidst ongoing controversies surrounding her.

The announcement follows criticism from a lawyer representing Lizzo’s former dancers, who recently sued the pop star over allegations of physical assault, harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
Lizzo has denied all accusations. However, her reputation took a huge hit. Netizens across differenyt social media platforms questioned the decision to let Lizzo headline a fundraising event for US President Joe Biden.
The lawyer representing her backup dancers condemned the choice amid the pending allegations.
In her post, Lizzo lamented feeling constantly targeted by false allegations propagated for “clout & views”. She stated it took a toll on her mentally and “sense of belonging” in the world.
The singer pointed out previous instances of body-shaming and hurtful comments about her appearance.
Supportive messages from fellow artists and fans flooded Lizzo’s post, with reality TV star Paris Hilton among those expressing solidarity.

Born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, Lizzo made her debut as a rapper in 2013, showcasing her unique hip hop style. However, it wasn’t until 2019 that she captured global attention.
She experienced a significant turning point in her career with the release of her third studio album “Cuz I Love You,” which soared to the number four spot on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album’s single “Truth Hurts” went viral, dominating the Billboard Hot 100 chart and making history as the longest-leading solo song by a female rapper.
In 2021, Lizzo’s single “Rumors” also made waves, securing a spot in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100.
She achieved her first Grammy Award success with “About Damn Time,” which won in the category of “Record of the Year.”
