Local holiday declared in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory Administration has announced a local holiday in the federal capital on Friday, December 26 2025.

The Islamabad district magistrate issued a formal notification in this regard.

According to the notification, all government offices within the revenue limits of Islamabad will remain closed on December 26; however, institutions providing essential services will be exempt from the holiday.

These institutions include the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad, the Capital Development Authority, the ICT Administration, the Islamabad Police, IESCO, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited and all government hospitals.

The district administration said that relevant departments will continue to function as usual to ensure uninterrupted provision of essential services.

Islamabad is effectively set to observe three consecutive holidays as Saturday and Sunday are already weekly off days.

According to sources, the local holiday announced for December 26 has been linked to the expected visit of the UAE president to Pakistan, and has reportedly been declared due to security considerations.

The holiday will apply only within the limits of Islamabad.
