Looters’ gang under guise of polio worker busted

PESHAWAR: A gang that broke into houses in the inner city in the guise of polio workers and robbed them at gunpoint has been caught on Thursday.
The police said that the gang had been operating for some time and had stolen lakhs of rupees in cash, gold ornaments and valuable mobile phones from several houses.

The gang was caught after a special team was formed to investigate the robberies. The team used CCTV footage, mobile phone data and geo-tagging to track down the suspects. They conducted raids in different areas of Peshawar and eventually arrested the four members of the gang, including a woman.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Naeem son of Masal Khan, Niaz Ali son of Raza Khan, Iqbal son of Maskeen and Masama (l) widow Zain Shah. They are residents of Matni, Qazi Clay, Hasangarhi and Badh Bir.
The police have recovered stolen cash, gold ornaments and mobile phones from the arrested suspects. They have also confessed to several incidents in other districts besides Peshawar. More revelations are expected from the accused during the investigation. – INP
