M-Tag deadline expires in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: The deadline for vehicle M-Tag registration in Islamabad has expired, while the Director General of Excise (DG Excise) has announced a major decision to facilitate citizens by making two M-Tag centres operational 24/7.

According to DG Excise, M-Tag services will now be available round-the-clock at 26 Number Chungi and 17 Meel (Phagran) toll plazas.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon said that M-Tag service countres set up at Kachnar Park, Sector I-8, and Sector F-9 Park will remain open until midnight (today), a decision aimed at providing convenience to citizens regarding M-Tag registration.

He said that vehicles without M-Tags will be stopped at checkpoints using M-Tag readers, ensuring proper enforcement of the system from tomorrow.

The Islamabad deputy commissioner along with DG Safe City, inspected various checkpoints, accompanied by the Chief Traffic Officer and SSP operations.

During the visit, the Islamabad deputy commissioner reviewed the M-Tag readers to ensure proper implementation.

He said that vehicles without M-Tags will be stopped at checkpoints using the M-Tag readers, with initial operations planned at 12 key checkpoints.

Irfan Memon appealed to citizens to get their M-Tags installed immediately to avoid inconvenience.

He said that M-Tag services are currently being provided at 16 locations across the city.

Earlier, authorities had warned that the final day of the M-Tag registration deadline in the federal capital was approaching, and enforcement actions against vehicles without M-Tags would begin from the following day.
