Main suspect in Dr Wardah kidnapping and murder case killed in police encounter

ABBOTTABAD: The main accused in the kidnapping and murder case of Dr Wardah, identified as Shamrez, was killed during a police encounter on Tuesday. The incident occurred at Mira Rehmat Khan within the limits of Nawan City when police were conducting an operation to arrest the suspect.

According to police officials, the operation involved a joint team led by the SHO Cantt and SHO Nawan City, along with other personnel. During the raid, Shamrez was shot dead by his own accomplices in an attempt to facilitate their escape, while two other suspects managed to flee in the dark.

Police recovered a pistol along with cartridges from the scene of the encounter. Special teams have been constituted to track down and arrest the absconding accomplices. A case has been registered, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The body of the deceased accused was shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital for postmortem examination. Later, Abbottabad District Police Officer Haroon Rashid Khan briefed the media during an emergency press conference at the DPO office at 9 PM, where he shared details about the background of the case and progress in the investigation into the abduction and murder of Dr Wardah.

The post-mortem report of Dr Wardah Mushtaq, who was murdered in Abbottabad, had confirmed that she was tortured and strangled to death. Until now, the key accused, Shamrez, had been on the run.
