Major breakthrough: Rs 5bn approved to tackle medicine shortage in KP

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Health Advisor Dr Riaz Anwar has announced the successful resolution of the pressing issue concerning the shortage of medicines in hospitals across the region. The breakthrough came following the approval of over Rs 5 billion for essential medicines, despite the financial challenges faced by the province.

Dr Riaz Anwar revealed that the necessary funds were secured after seeking approval from the Cabinet through a circular. The approval, a remarkable feat given the economic constraints, highlights the government’s commitment to prioritizing public health.

“The approval of more than Rs 5 billion is a testament to our unwavering dedication to serving the public and ensuring the provision of essential services in hospitals,” Dr Riaz Anwar said.

The funds, earmarked specifically for the purchase of medicines and settling outstanding dues, were much needed to address the critical shortage in hospitals. The Health Advisor assured the public that the allocated amount would be utilized efficiently to replenish medicine stocks and clear arrears owed to suppliers.

Despite the initial requirement of Rs 9 billion to meet the healthcare needs of hospitals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the allocated Rs 5 billion is a crucial step towards alleviating the immediate crisis.
