Major General Faisal Naseer appointed NACTA’s national coordinator

ISLAMABAD: Major General Faisal Naseer has been appointed national coordinator of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for three years on a secondment basis, according to a notification issued by the Establishment Division on Friday.

The notification said the appointment was made with the approval of the federal government under Section 9(1) of the NACTA Act, 2013, with immediate effect and until further orders.

Maj-Gen Naseer, who has served as director general of counterintelligence at Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), will take charge of coordinating the country’s counter-terrorism efforts through NACTA.

The appointment comes as Pakistan continues to strengthen its efforts to counter militant violence and improve coordination among institutions involved in counter-terrorism operations.

NACTA was established in 2008 under the Ministry of Interior as the country’s central authority for coordinating counter-terrorism and counter-extremism efforts.

The authority develops comprehensive national strategies and action plans against terrorism and extremism, coordinates their implementation and reports to the federal government on progress.

NACTA was also tasked with coordinating implementation of the 20-point National Action Plan adopted in the wake of the 2014 Army Public School attack in Peshawar.

In other notifications issued by the Establishment Division, Muhammad Riazuddin Khan, a Grade-21 officer of the Secretariat Group currently serving as an officer on special duty, was appointed executive director of State Life Insurance Corporation.

The federal government’s contract with Federal Secretary for Information Technology Zarar Hasham Khan was extended for another year with effect from Sept. 4, 2026.

The appointment of Jahangir Mushtaq as joint secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office was also extended for one year.

The services of Grade-20 Police Service of Pakistan officer Naveed Ahmed Nisar Khawaja, who was awaiting posting, were placed at the disposal of the Frontier Constabulary.

The services of another Grade-20 police officer, Muhammad Karim Khan, were placed at the disposal of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), while those of Grade-19 police officer Ahsan Saifullah were placed at the disposal of the Punjab government.

The Establishment Division also approved a 14-day foreign leave for Grade-20 officer Imran Javed, who was awaiting posting.

The notifications said the appointments, transfers, extensions and other decisions had been made under the applicable rules and terms and conditions.
