‘Malcolm in the Middle’ revival trailer sparks nostalgia as Frankie Muniz returns nearly 20 years later

Malcolm in the Middle

The first trailer for Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair has dropped, bringing back Frankie Muniz and the chaotic family comedy that made the original series a cult favourite.

The revival will premiere on Hulu on April 10 and reunites much of the original cast almost two decades after the beloved sitcom ended.

Frankie Muniz returns as Malcolm, alongside Bryan Cranston as father Hal and Jane Kaczmarek as the formidable Lois.

The trailer teases a return to the show’s signature chaos as Malcolm is forced back into the orbit of his unpredictable family.

Malcolm is dragged back into family chaos

According to the official synopsis, Malcolm has spent more than a decade keeping distance from his family while raising his daughter.

But that distance collapses when Hal and Lois demand he return home for their 40th wedding anniversary celebration.

The reunion quickly spirals into the same dysfunctional family chaos that made the original show a hit.

Fan-favourite characters return

The revival brings back several familiar faces from the original series.

Chris Masterson returns as Francis while Justin Berfield reprises his role as Reese. Emy Coligado also returns as Piama.

The role of Dewey, originally played by Erik Per Sullivan, will now be portrayed by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark.

New characters include Malcolm’s daughter Leah, played by Keeley Karsten, as well as his girlfriend Tristan, played by Kiana Madeira.

Vaughan Murrae will play Kelly, the youngest child of Hal and Lois whose existence was revealed in the original series finale.

Why the revival is generating buzz

The original Malcolm in the Middle aired on Fox from 2000 to 2006 and became one of the defining sitcoms of its era.

Created by Linwood Boomer, the show ran for seven seasons and 151 episodes and earned 33 Emmy nominations, winning seven awards.

The revival will consist of four episodes directed by Ken Kwapis.

All episodes of the original series are currently available to stream on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.

With the trailer now released, fans are already revisiting the chaos of the Wilkerson family ahead of Malcolm’s long-awaited return.
