Man arrested for marrying 10-year-old girl

FAISALABAD: Faislabad police on  Monday made an arrest in a case involving the marriage of a 10-year-old girl. According to police officials, a man named Ismail Jatoi married a minor girl, who is only 10 years old and currently attending class five.

Upon receiving information about this child marriage, the local police promptly filed a case against Nikah Khawan (the person who conducted the marriage ceremony), the groom, the girl’s father, and the witnesses.

The police team successfully apprehended the groom, and efforts are underway to locate and arrest the other individuals mentioned in the First Information Report (FIR).

A similar incident was reported in 2021 when Sindh police intervened to prevent an underage marriage in the Khairpur district of the province. In this case, 20 people, including the bride and groom, were taken into custody.

The incident took place in Kot Denal Muhallah in Khairpur, where a marriage ceremony was organized to unite a 14-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl.
