Man kills father, two sisters

RAWALPINDI: A man in Rawalpindi allegedly killed his father and two sisters over ‘property dispute’, and slit the throat of his three-month-old nephew, who remains in critical condition.

According to media reports, the suspect, Muhammad Ali, first murdered his 70-year-old father, Mahmood Hussain, and his 32-year-old younger sister, Shabnam Zara, at Tramri Chowk in Islamabad. He then travelled to Rawalpindi’s Irfanabad area on Adiala Road, where he killed his 35-year-old sister, Anjum Zara, and seriously injured her infant son, Salar.

Police arrested the suspect and recovered the knife used in the killings. Two separate murder cases have been registered: one at Islamabad’s Shehzad Town police station for the killing of two people, and another at Rawalpindi’s Saddar Bairuni police station for the killing of one woman and the attempted murder of her child.

Initial investigations suggest the killings were linked to a property dispute. The suspect had reportedly demanded a share of the property from his father, who was determined to transfer it to his two daughters. Police said ‘honour’ could also be a possible motive, but the exact reasons will be confirmed after further investigation.

Police sources said that after killing his elder sister, the suspect waited at her home for his brother-in-law to arrive. Local residents prevented the man from entering, and police arrived to arrest the suspect.

A Rawalpindi police spokesperson said evidence had been collected from the scene and the injured child was moved to a hospital. The suspect will be prosecuted with strong evidence to ensure exemplary punishment, he added.
