WEB DESK: Mari Energies Limited has reported a new oil and gas discovery in Sindh’s Mari Development and Production Lease area, marking another milestone in its expanding exploration portfolio. The company shared the development in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Friday.
The discovery was made at the Mari Ghazij CF-B1 well, where drilling began on September 12, 2025. The well reached a total depth of 1,195 metres, targeting oil-bearing zones within the Ghazij formation. During testing, the well produced an encouraging flow of 305 barrels of oil per day along with 3 million standard cubic feet of gas per day. The wellhead pressure stood at 225 psi on a 48/64-inch choke.
Mari Energies, which operates the Mari D&PL block with a full 100 percent working interest, said the find supports its ongoing efforts to enhance domestic energy resources and strengthen Pakistan’s production base. The company is expected to carry out further evaluations to assess the commercial viability of the discovery.
Expanding offshore ambitions
In a separate development, Mari Energies also announced its entry into Pakistan’s offshore exploration sector by acquiring a 20 percent working interest in the Eastern Offshore Indus-C Block from Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL). The transaction comes under a farm-out agreement that also includes Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPOC), a subsidiary of Türkiye’s national oil company, and Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL).

The partnership is seen as a direct outcome of recent engagements between the governments of Pakistan and Türkiye, aimed at boosting collaboration in the energy sector and attracting foreign investment into Pakistan’s underexplored offshore basins.
Once all regulatory approvals are in place, TPOC will assume operatorship of the block. The final working interests are expected to stand at TPOC 25 percent, PPL 35 percent, Mari Energies 20 percent, and OGDCL 20 percent.
The deal marks Mari Energies’ first step into offshore exploration, expanding its footprint beyond its strong onshore operations. The company said the collaboration would help accelerate exploration in the country’s coastal regions, potentially unlocking new hydrocarbon reserves.
Industry analysts view this partnership as an important development for Pakistan’s energy landscape, signalling renewed momentum in offshore exploration. The cooperation between Mari Energies, TPOC, PPL, and OGDCL also lays the groundwork for deeper Pakistan-Türkiye ties in the energy domain, with both countries looking to benefit from shared expertise and investment in future projects.
