LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of a Cybercrime Unit to curb harassment and blackmail, particularly targeting women and children on social media.
The move is being described as a major step to address rising online abuse and exploitation.
Under the initiative, victims of harassment and blackmail — especially women and children — will no longer be required to visit police stations or offices to lodge complaints.
The Cybecrime Unit will operate under a modern and integrated system, enabling citizens to register complaints online and seek assistance more easily.
The chief minister said strict legal action would be taken against those involved in harassment and online exploitation, adding that protecting women and children remains a top priority of the provincial government.
She further emphasised that no individual involved in such crimes would be allowed to escape the law.
