Maryam Nawaz takes oath as Pakistan’s first female CM


LAHORE: On Monday, Maryam Nawaz, recently elected as Punjab Chief Minister took oath as the country’s first provincial female head.

The swearing-in ceremony held at Punjab Governor House was attended by a diverse array of guests, numbering over 1,000, including diplomats, celebrities, political figures, journalists, and notable members of the Sharif family such as Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif.

During her speech, Maryam Nawaz, clutching a portrait of her late mother Kulsoom, expressed her disappointment at the opposition’s decision to boycott the event.

“This is the honour of every mother, sister and daughter that a woman has been elected as the CM and I pray that the process continues and more women take my place as the leader of the house,” she added.

She also emphasized that the primary goals of her tenure with the PML-N would revolve around ensuring employment opportunities, improving education standards, and enhancing healthcare services.

Maryam Nawaz won the election after receiving the backing of 220 MPAs in the provincial assembly.
