Maryam Nawaz tops list of richest women candidates in election race

ISLAMABAD: The total worth of assets of 1,315 women candidates in the race for the 2024 election is estimated to be more than 20 billion rupees, according to the data obtained from the election commission, tax authorities and returning officers, which the candidates have submitted along with their nomination papers.
The data available with Hum Investigation Team shows that almost 220 women candidates in the current election race own assets worth millions of rupees.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Vice-President Maryam Nawaz Sharif tops the list of the richest women with assets worth 850 million rupees. Most of Maryam Nawaz’s assets were inherited from her father Nawaz Sharif. She owns 1,500 kanals of valuable land, gold worth 1.8 million rupees, more than 10 million rupees in various bank accounts and cash, and 1,120,000 shares in different companies worth 122 million rupees.


Pakistan People’s Party leader Hina Rabbani Khar is the second richest woman candidate with assets worth 520 million rupees, according to the nomination papers obtained by Hum Investigation Team. Hina Rabbani Khar also inherited land and business from her family.
The Hum Investigation Team examined the nomination papers of several wealthy women candidates and found that nearly 157 women candidates were not even registered with the FBR. The nomination papers reveal that 425 women have the backing of political parties, while about 890 women are contesting as independent candidates.
A total of 1,315 women are in the field for general and reserved seats. The investigation further reveals that about 120 women candidates for the national and provincial assemblies also run their own businesses.
PTI’s Yasmin Rashid is the third richest woman candidate with assets worth 500 million rupees. Yasmin Rashid owns gold, properties and her own business worth millions of rupees.
PPP leader Faryal Talpur is the fourth richest woman candidate with assets worth 430 million rupees, according to the nomination papers obtained by Hum Investigation Team. PPP’s Belum Hasnain has assets worth 410 million rupees, making her the fifth richest woman candidate.
PML-N’s PML-N’s Nazhat Sadiq has assets worth 240 million rupees, ranking her sixth on the list. PML-N’s Tehmina Daultana, who has assets worth 200 million rupees, is the seventh richest woman candidate.
GDA’s Dr Fehmida Mirza is the eighth richest woman candidate with assets worth nearly 180 million rupees. Dr. Fehmida Mirza owns properties abroad and in the country, as well as her own business.
Balochistan Awami Party’s leader Zubaida Jalal has assets worth around 110 million rupees. Her husband runs a mining business in Balochistan.
Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party’s Dr Munazza Hassan has assets worth 120 million rupees and owns expensive property in Lahore. Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party’s Andleeb Abbas has assets worth 90 million rupees. PML-N’s Begum Ishrat Ashraf has assets worth 110 million rupees and is also a partner in her husband Chaudhry Jafar Iqbal’s vast business.

PML-N’s Hina Pervaiz Butt has assets worth 70 million rupees. PTI’s Aaliya Hamza has assets worth 20 million rupees, while PTI’s women’s wing president Colonel Shujaat has assets worth 60 million rupees. JUI-F’s Aaliya Kamran had assets worth nearly 160 million rupees.

PTI’s Nausheen Hamid has assets worth 30 million rupees. PML-N’s independent candidate Aisha Rajab Baloch has assets worth 40 million rupees. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Aisha Bibi had assets worth 50 million rupees.

PML-N’s leader Maryam Aurangzeb has assets worth 30 million rupees. PPP’s Mehrin Bhutto has assets worth 70 million rupees. PPP’s Dr. Nafisa Shah has assets worth 40 million rupees. Dr. Nafisa also inherited property from her father Qaim Ali Shah. PTI’s Ghazala Saifi has assets worth 90 million rupees. GDA’s Saira Bano has assets worth 60 million rupees.
BAP’s leader Rubina Irfan has assets worth 60 million rupees. PML-Q’s Aisha Ghulali has assets worth 20 million rupees. PML-N’s leader Anusha Rahman has assets worth 60 million rupees. PML-N’s Aisha Ghaus Pasha has assets worth 70 million rupees. PML-N’s Musarrat Khawaja has assets worth 110 million rupees, while Zeb Jafar has assets worth 80 million rupees.
