Maya Hawke marries Christian Lee Hutson in surprise Valentine’s Day wedding

Maya Hawke marked Valentine’s Day with a major personal milestone, marrying musician Christian Lee Hutson in an intimate New York City ceremony attended by her famous parents and several of her Stranger Things co-stars.

The 27-year-old actress tied the knot on Saturday, February 14, at St George’s Episcopal Church. The evening wedding was described as a surprise celebration, with close friends and family gathered for the occasion.

Star-studded guest list

Among those in attendance were Hawke’s parents, actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, who were married from 1998 to 2005. Their son, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke, was also present at the ceremony.

Several of Hawke’s Stranger Things castmates turned out to celebrate, including Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery.

The presence of both Hollywood royalty and Netflix stars added to the intimate but high-profile atmosphere of the Valentine’s Day wedding.

What Maya Hawke wore

For the ceremony, Hawke wore a white wedding dress paired with an oversized feathery winter coat. Hutson opted for a classic tuxedo.

Thurman, 55, chose a light blue gown with matching shoes, while Ethan Hawke, also 55, wore an all-black ensemble.

From collaborators to newlyweds

Hawke and Hutson first met years ago while recording music. The New York-based musician opened for Phoebe Bridgers between 2022 and 2023 and later collaborated on Hawke’s 2024 album Chaos Angel.

Hutson also confirmed she was his fiancée during an interview with SoCal Sound Session last year. Two months later, Hawke was photographed in Manhattan wearing a diamond ring on her wedding finger.

That same month, the couple made their red carpet debut at the opening night of John Proctor Is the Villain at New York City’s Booth Theater, where Hawke supported co-star Sadie Sink.

In February 2024, Hutson shared a Valentine’s Day post referencing Chaos Angel, writing that he loved the record and was excited to share more of it.

Later that year, Hawke posted candid images of the pair on Instagram, describing Hutson as a “poet musical genius” and revealing she had co-written songs on his album Paradise Pop. 10.

‘Dating your friends is the best’

Hawke has previously spoken openly about their relationship. During an appearance on The Zach Sang Show in July 2024, she reflected on building a romantic partnership from friendship.

“I cannot recommend highly enough dating your friends. It’s the best. They know you,” she said, adding that being with someone who understands her as a person has made a difference.

Best known for her role in Netflix’s Stranger Things, Hawke most recently appeared in Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Her Valentine’s Day wedding now marks a new chapter both personally and publicly, bringing together music, film and family in one closely watched celebration.
