Mbappé hits four as Real Madrid survive Olympiacos in Champions League firefight

Olympiacos vs Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappé delivered a masterclass in front of goal, striking four times to lift Real Madrid past Olympiacos in a pulsating Champions League showdown, said an article by BBC.

The night began with a shock for the visitors when Francisco Chiquinho smashed in a superb 20-yard effort to give the Greek side an early lead. But once Mbappé found his rhythm, the match flipped on its head.

The French superstar erupted for a lightning-fast triple within seven minutes – the second-quickest hat-trick ever recorded in the competition. His first came from a perfectly weighted Vinícius Júnior through ball that he dispatched with trademark composure. Moments later, he rose to nod in an Arda Güler cross, and then timed his run flawlessly to latch onto an Eduardo Camavinga pass and complete the hat-trick.

Mbappé even set up a finish for Vinícius, only for VAR to chalk it off for offside. Real kept pushing, with Aurélien Tchouaméni rattling the woodwork as the injury-hit Spanish giants – missing five defenders and their starting goalkeeper – controlled much of the contest.

Olympiacos, though, refused to fold. Substitute Mehdi Taremi powered in a header to reignite the home crowd. Mbappé answered again, stabbing home his fourth from close range after a neat exchange with Vinícius. Still, the Greeks battled to the end, with Ayoub El Kaabi heading in late to narrow the gap once more.

The victory snapped a three-match winless spell for Real and finally delivered their first competitive triumph on Greek soil at the 10th attempt. Madrid now sit fifth in the overall competition standings, three points behind leaders Arsenal, while Olympiacos remain down in 33rd with two points.

MBAPPÉ’S SCORCHING SEASON ROLLS ON

Mbappé’s four-goal outburst continues what has been a blistering Champions League campaign – he now leads the tournament with nine goals in five games, already his highest tally in a single season.

Across all competitions, he has 22 goals in just 18 appearances for Madrid, meaning this explosive performance actually ended a rare three-match scoring lull.

“I feel great, I’m very happy,” Mbappé said afterward. “Scoring goals is always special. My teammates give me incredible service.”

In Athens, he was at his devastating best: accelerating past defenders, timing runs with precision, and burying chances with ruthless efficiency. Remarkably, he scored four times from only six attempts on goal – fortunate for Madrid, whose patched-together back line continued to show its fragility.

Mbappé’s latest scoring explosion added a string of new entries to the record books, marking the fourth match of his career in which he has scored four or more goals and making him only the third player ever to register a Champions League hat-trick inside the first 29 minutes. His seven-minute treble ranks as the second fastest in the tournament’s history, and he now owns the record for the most away hat-tricks in European Cup or Champions League play with four. He also became the first Real Madrid player to score four goals in a European away match.

Now, Real Madrid return home to face Manchester City on December 10, while Olympiacos travel to Kazakhstan to meet Kairat Almaty on December 9.
