PERTH: The Stars vs Scorchers match saw a modest clash as the Scorchers defeated Stars after chasing 130 for six wicket here on Saturday.
Earlier, the Melbourne Stars batted first, scoring 130 runs in 18.2 overs.
During their innings, Marcus Stoinis led the Stars with 55 runs off 39 balls, while Campbell Kellaway added 19 runs. The Stars’ innings was hampered as their top and middle-order batsmen fell regularly, preventing them from setting a bigger total.
Jhye Richardson and the Perth Scorchers’ bowlers maintained pressure on the Stars, taking wickets at key moments and keeping the total under control. The disciplined bowling left Melbourne struggling to build partnerships.
Chasing the total, the Perth’s Finn Allen attacked from the start, scoring 69 off 39 balls and giving the team the momentum. Aaron Hardie and Ashton Turner supported Allen, playing with patience and keeping the required run rate manageable. Despite occasional breakthroughs by the Stars’ bowlers, the Scorchers reached 134/4 in 16.5 overs, winning by 6 wickets with 19 balls to spare.
The match showed that in T20 cricket, timely aggression and calmness under pressure can decide the outcome more than the total score.
