Met Office forecasts rain, snowfall

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain and snowfall in the country’s western and northern regions from December 20 to 22.

In its latest weather advisory, the Met Office said a spell of rain and snowfall is expected in the western and upper parts of the country during the period.

According to the report, a system of westerly winds will enter Balochistan on December 19, bringing rain with thunder and snowfall over mountainous areas.

Rain is also expected in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir on December 19 and 20, with the possibility of heavy snowfall at some locations.

Rain is likely in several districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera, on December 19.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi are also expected to receive heavy rainfall.

“From the night of December 20 to December 21, heavy rain and snowfall over the hills are expected in Murree and the Galiyat,” the Met Office said.

The Met Office said that Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Lahore may remain cloudy on December 20 and 21, with chances of light drizzle.

The PMD has advised citizens to remain cautious, warning that landslides, road closures and slippery conditions may occur in hilly areas.
