Twin-City marathon

ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: For the first time ever, the Islamabad–Rawalpindi Metro Bus track is transforming into a high-energy racing strip as thousands of runners gear up for the much-anticipated Twin-City Marathon today. Authorities have announced a full-day suspension of metro bus services to accommodate the event.

The moment also marks the first occasion the metro corridor will host a sporting event of this scale.

The half marathon will kick off from Saddar Metro Station, sending runners charging down the dedicated track toward Islamabad, while the 5 km fun run will begin from Centaurus Mall, drawing participation from students, professionals, families, and fitness enthusiasts.

Security and traffic teams from both cities are deployed along the route, and volunteers are stationed at various points to assist runners. Water stations, medical posts, and cheering zones have been set up along the metro line to ensure a smooth, festive atmosphere.

Event organisers say the marathon aims to promote a healthier lifestyle while showcasing the unique urban connectivity of the twin cities. The use of the metro track, normally off-limits to the public, has added a buzz of excitement, with participants eager to run on a route typically reserved for buses.

The metro service is expected to resume its normal schedule after the conclusion of the event later in the day.
