Mia Khalifa speaks up for Palestine amidst Hamas-Israel war

LONDON: Former adult film star Mia Khalifa has voiced her support for Palestine during the recent Hamas-Israel conflict.

The Gaza-based militant group, Hamas, made audacious incursions into several Israeli settlements and communities, resulting in the deaths of over 700 Israelis and the abduction of numerous civilians. This brazen attack unfolded in the face of a nation possessing superior military capabilities and advanced technology.

In a tweet, Khalifa made it clear that she stands with Palestine, while also acknowledging the complexity of the situation. She stated, “Hamas is not Palestine’s army; their actions do not represent the Palestinian people. Hamas was formed in 1987, two decades after the occupation began, as a response to ethnic cleansing and apartheid. They are an extremist group that calls upon other extremist groups, which similarly do not reflect the broader populace.”

Despite sparking substantial online backlash for her vocal support of Hamas’ actions, which resulted in hundreds of Israeli casualties over the weekend, Khalifa continued to engage with her 400 million followers on the microblogging platform X. She even urged those in Palestine to film horizontally, expressing her desire to better witness the ongoing conflict through the videos shared by Hamas fighters.

As a consequence of her tweets related to the Israel-Palestine conflict, Khalifa was removed from her advisory role at Red Light Holland, a Canadian mushroom producer. This decision was reached following a significant escalation of the conflict on September 8 when over 500 Hamas fighters infiltrated Israel.

In her response to the decision of sacking her from Red Light Holland, she said “Please worry about your sad little company lacking direction and purpose before you utter my name again. I stand with all people fighting oppression, now and always, do your research before begging for my investment in your little project, I’m from LEBANON, are you insane for expecting me to be on the side of colonialism you…”
