Reality TV star Mikayla Matthews has opened up about the emotional reason behind her separation from husband Jace Terry following a shocking revelation on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

Mikayla Matthews confirmed that she and her husband Jace Terry are currently taking time apart as they navigate ongoing challenges in their marriage.

During the show, Matthews revealed that her struggles with intimacy stem from trauma linked to sexual abuse she experienced during childhood.

Speaking about the separation, she said both she and Terry are still trying to understand how to move forward.

“It’s still new to me, and it’s new to him, and we’re just navigating it the best way that we can,” Matthews said.

She added that revisiting those experiences while filming the show has been emotionally challenging.

“Last season we dove into the beginning stages of it, and that was me revisiting all this trauma for the first time as well,” she explained.

Therapy struggles revealed on the show

During the fourth season, Matthews shared that she and Terry had attended therapy sessions together to work through their relationship challenges.

However, she admitted the process has been difficult amid other health struggles, including chronic skin flare-ups that have made it hard to focus on intimacy issues.

Terry also addressed the situation during the show, admitting he has struggled with the lack of progress but is trying to remain supportive.

“I’m definitely not okay with it,” he said. “But getting upset about it doesn’t help anything. The only thing I can do is be patient and be there for her.”

What the couple say about their future

Despite their separation, Matthews said the split is not necessarily permanent.

“I don’t think it’s with the intention of being separated forever,” she said.

The pair remain focused on their children and still see each other regularly.
