Military role, US ties fuel Pakistan’s market rally: Bloomberg

Pakistan’s market rally

WASHINGTON: US publication Bloomberg has said that Pakistan’s stock market has emerged as one of Asia’s best-performing markets.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the surge in Pakistan’s stock market reflects investors’ confidence in the vision of the country’s leadership. “Stability, transparency, and fiscal discipline in Pakistan are shining indicators of investor trust,” the publication said.

It said that retail investors in Pakistan have driven a 40 per cent increase in stocks this year, with the benchmark KSE-100 index rising by 40 per cent, positioning Pakistan as one of Asia’s top-performing markets.

“Government stability and improved economic policies have attracted Pakistanis toward the stock market. The Pakistani economy was on the brink of default in 2023, but recent improvements have reinvigorated investor sentiment,” it said

The report said that Pakistan’s military leadership has played a key role in improving relations with the United States, as well as stabilizing the stock market.

“The extension of top military leaders tenure until 2030 is being seen as a symbol of political stability. This year, better economic reforms led global rating agencies S&P Global and Fitch Ratings to upgrade Pakistan’s ratings,” it said.

The report said that the improvement in Pakistan’s economic ratings by international agencies has boosted investor confidence. In the September quarter, 36,000 new trading accounts were opened in Pakistan, and daily trading volumes on the Pakistan Stock Exchange reached $200 million in October—the highest monthly trading volume since 2017.

Bloomberg further noted that Pakistan’s stock market is rapidly advancing, with retail investors helping drive the momentum. Small business investors in Pakistan have propelled a 40 per cent rally in the stock market.

The KSE-100 index increased by nearly 40 per cent in 2025, establishing Pakistan as one of Asia’s top-performing markets, it said.
