Disney has officially cast Milo Manheim and Teagan Croft as Flynn Rider and Rapunzel in its upcoming live-action adaptation of Tangled.
The casting was confirmed on January 7, with Manheim and Croft stepping into roles originally voiced by Zachary Leviand Mandy Moore in Disney’s 2010 animated hit.
Milo Manheim’s biggest Disney role yet
Manheim, 24, is best known for leading Disney’s Zombies franchise, where he built a large Gen-Z following as Zed. His casting as Flynn Rider marks a major step up within the studio, placing him at the centre of one of Disney’s most anticipated live-action remakes.
The actor, who is the son of Camryn Manheim, first appeared on screen in a 2009 episode of Ghost Whisperer. He later gained wider attention after finishing as runner-up on Dancing With the Stars in 2018.
In recent years, Manheim has leaned into musical theatre and film, appearing in Journey to Bethlehem and starring as Seymour in the off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors. His background in performance and music closely aligns with Flynn Rider’s charm-driven, song-heavy role.
Reacting to the announcement, Manheim commented “I have seen the light” on Disney’s Instagram post and later shared a side-by-side image of himself and the animated character, writing that he was “too grateful to put into words”.
Teagan Croft steps into Rapunzel’s role
Croft, 21, rose to international recognition as Raven in DC’s Titans, becoming one of the youngest actors to lead a major superhero television series.
The Australian-born actor made her film debut in The Osiris Child before appearing on long-running soap Home and Away. In 2023, she starred in Netflix’s True Spirit, portraying sailor Jessica Watson in the biographical drama.
Croft responded playfully to the casting news, joking in the comments section of Disney’s announcement post, “OMGGG WHO ARE THEY”, as fans reacted to her casting as the iconic Disney princess.
What we know about Disney’s Tangled remake
The live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey, best known for The Greatest Showman, with a screenplay by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson.
Casting for Mother Gothel has not yet been announced, following earlier rumours involving Scarlett Johansson. Moore has previously said she would be open to appearing in the remake in a cameo role.
Disney has not confirmed a release date for the live-action Tangled, nor whether original composers Alan Menken and Glenn Slater will return to create new music.
