ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has taken a significant step by serving notices to former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Retired Qamar Javed Bajwa and former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed.

This legal action stems from a case involving allegations of breaching legal boundaries and distorting various events post-retirement.

The case was initiated based on a petition filed by citizen Atif Ali, who pointed out that journalists Javed Chaudhry and Shahid Maitla had authored two articles that had a detrimental impact on society. These articles, which are attached to the petition, are believed to have contributed to negative consequences.

Atif Ali, the petitioner, expressed concern over how these articles exposed criminal behavior masked as freedom of speech, leading to his request for legal action. He contends that General Retired Bajwa and Lt General Retired Faiz Hameed were involved in this unlawful activity, thereby calling for the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take strict measures.

Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court, Aamer Farooq, issued a written order in response to Atif Ali’s petition. According to the petitioner, multiple requests were made to the FIA to register a case, but no action was taken. Consequently, the court’s verdict directs the FIA to register a case and take appropriate action.

Furthermore, the Islamabad High Court has extended notices to journalists Javed Chaudhry and Shahid Matla, as well as the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and other concerned parties, including General Retired Qamar Javed Bajwa and Lt General Retired Faiz Hameed. This development marks a significant legal response to the allegations of misconduct and misrepresentation associated with the mentioned articles.
