GLOUCESTERSHIRE: Moeen Ali announced his plan to retire from domestic cricket in England following the completion of the 2025 Blast season.

The 37-year-old is currently contracted with Warwickshire. He will fulfil a dual role as both, player and coach, for the Birmingham Bears during this year’s T20 Blast.

However, should the team reach the tournament’s knockout rounds, it is expected that he will no longer participate as a player.

Moeez Ali also relinquished the captaincy of Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, concluding his tenure after four seasons.

The transition is influenced in part by the England and Wales Cricket board’s (ECB) regulations restricting English players’ participation in foreign leagues throughout the domestic season.

By ending his domestic commitments, Moeen Ali aims to broaden his involvement in international franchise competitions.  This includes a prospective return to the Caribbean Premiere League with the Guyana Warriors later this year.

The 37-year-old remarked on his decision as a carefully considered move, balancing professional ambitions with family priorities.
