Moeen Ali misses out on The Hundred auction

Moeen Ali joins Karachi Kings as PSL 11 countdown heats up

England all-rounder Moeen Ali finds himself at the center of dual controversies ahead of the 2026 cricket season. While franchises have passed on him in The Hundred auction, warnings have cast uncertainty over his participation in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026).

Exclusion from The Hundred Auction

Moeen Ali, once a marquee player and captain for Birmingham Phoenix, will not feature in this year’s The Hundred auction. Despite reversing his domestic retirement and registering at a base price of £75,000, none of the eight franchises included him on their preliminary target lists, a prerequisite for entering the final bidding pool.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has rejected calls to retroactively add Moeen, citing the need to uphold auction integrity. Team insiders have suggested practical factors such as his age, he turns 39 before the new season—and his reserve price as reasons for his omission.

Despite missing out on the auction, Moeen retains potential pathways back into the tournament. Strong performances in the T20 Blast with Yorkshire or a wildcard entry could see him return. A coaching role also remains a possibility after his recent involvement with the England Lions in Abu Dhabi.

Security Warnings Ahead of PSL 2026

Meanwhile, as per Open Magazine and WION, Moeen Ali is among several overseas stars facing warnings from Jamaat-ul-Ahrar. The organisation has publicly advised international cricketers, including David Warner, Steve Smith, and Daryl Mitchell, to withdraw from the PSL, claiming their safety cannot be guaranteed.

The 2026 PSL will be staged across only two cities and behind closed doors due to government directives citing rising fuel costs and regional security concerns. While the PCB has implemented strict measures, the threats have intensified scrutiny on the tournament.

Uncertain Future for an England Icon

Moeen’s season ahead is thus shaped by a combination of sporting and security challenges. While his absence from The Hundred auction has sparked debate about his relevance in English domestic cricket, warnings surrounding the PSL could further complicate his international T20 commitments.

Whether Moeen Ali reemerges as a central figure in The Hundred or safely navigates the PSL 2026, his decisions in the coming weeks will be closely watched by cricket fans worldwide.
