Mohammad Amir enters 400-wicket club in T20 cricket

LAHORE: Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has entered the record books as the second Pakistani cricketer to claim 400 wickets in T20 cricket, cementing his place among the format’s leading bowlers.
The 33-year-old left-arm pacer achieved the milestone during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025, when he dismissed Fabian Allen.
Amir reached the landmark in his 343rd T20 match, boasting a bowling average of 22.54 and an economy rate of 7.33.

With 400 wickets, Amir is now ranked ninth among the all-time leading wicket-takers in T20 cricket.
Wahab Riaz remains Pakistan’s top wicket-taker in the format with 413 scalps, while Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leads globally with 658 wickets.

Other bowlers in the 400-wicket club include West Indies’ Dwayne Bravo (631) and Sunil Narine (590)
Mohammad Amir began his T20 career in 2008. He delivered his best performance in the 2016 Pakistan Super League (PSL), taking six wickets for just 17 runs against Lahore Qalandars.
He retired from international cricket following the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and now features exclusively in franchise leagues around the world.

Pakistan players drop in latest ICC rankings
Pakistani bowlers and batters have slipped in the latest ICC rankings, though star batter Babar Azam reclaimed the No 2 spot in ODIs after edging out India’s Rohit Sharma.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan slid five places to 27th while vice-captain Salman Ali Agha climbed three places to 40th in the batting charts.
Opener Saim Ayub suffered the biggest fall, dropping 12 spots to 60th. Among other Pakistani batters, Fakhar Zaman dropped one place to 28th, and Imam-ul-Haq slipped three places to 42nd.
Abrar surges 18 places
In bowling, Abrar Ahmed provided the lone bright spot for Pakistan, surging 18 places to 43rd.

In contrast, Mohammad Nawaz and Mohammad Wasim Jr fell to 78th and 87th, respectively, while Shaheen Afridi dropped two places to 15th.

In the batting charts, India’s Shubman Gill retained the top position, followed by Babar Azam and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell.
South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj rose to the world No 1 bowler ranking, overtaking Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana and India’s Kuldeep Yadav.
