WEB DESK: Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain is targeting a return to the national team, saying he is working on his pace, fitness and consistency in domestic cricket.

In an interview with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), the 26-year-old pacer said his training was going well and he was seeing improvement in his bowling.

Hasnain said coaches at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) were providing him with extensive support and sharing their experience. He added that pace was natural to him and that he had bowled quickly since the start of his career.

The fast bowler said improving his skills while maintaining his pace was one of his key targets at the ongoing camp. He claimed he was currently bowling at speeds of between 140 and 145km per hour.

Hasnain acknowledged that bowling in matches and at the nets was different but said he was determined to make his way back into the Pakistan team as soon as possible.

He said he had bowled long spells in domestic cricket and also featured in red-ball cricket last year. Hasnain added that he was focused on maintaining his fitness and playing as much cricket as possible.

“I want to play all three formats for Pakistan,” Hasnain said, adding that he regularly watched former Pakistan fast bowlers Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar.

He praised the trio for bowling with aggression and pace and said he also wanted to develop a similar approach.

Hasnain stressed that maintaining fitness was crucial to sustaining bowling speed. He said injuries and excessive workload could affect pace, which was why he was focusing on remaining fit and physically strong.

The national fast bowler made his international debut for Pakistan in 2019. He has so far played 15 ODIs and 28 T20 Internationals for the national side.

He last represented Pakistan in a T20I in December 2024 and an ODI in February 2025.

Meanwhile, a bowlers’ development camp is underway at the NCA in Lahore, with young fast bowlers receiving specialised training to improve their technical skills and physical fitness.

Renowned coach Ashley Noffke and the NCA coaching staff are overseeing drills focused on grip, bowling action, line and length.

Sports science expert Javed Mughal has also conducted a special session on workload management for fast bowlers as part of the camp.
