More rains predicted in country, temperatures to drop

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced that a westerly wave is set to enter the upper regions on Thursday evening, officially marking the end of the monsoon season across the country.

Under the influence of this weather system, various regions are expected to experience adverse weather conditions, including rain and wind/thunderstorms, with moderate to isolated heavy falls anticipated in several areas.

The affected regions include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, and Kashmir, encompassing Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur. Additionally, Gilgit Baltistan regions, including Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar, will also witness these weather conditions from September 28th to 30th.

The PMD has further forecasted snowfall over the high mountains in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.

Residents of Kohat, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Haripur, Kurram, Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, and Sheikhupura are cautioned to expect rain, wind/thunderstorms, and the possibility of hailstorms in isolated areas during the night of September 28th and on September 29th.

Additionally, Zhob, Barkhan, Layyah, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, and Bahawalnagar should be prepared for rain and dust thunderstorms during this period.

The PMD warns that wind thunderstorms may cause damage to loose structures such as electric poles, solar panels, billboards, and more. It is expected that temperatures will significantly drop.

Farmers are advised by the PMD to manage their crop activities accordingly, while tourists and travelers are urged to exercise caution to avoid any untoward situations during this period.

In the interest of safety, the general public is advised to remain in safe places during windstorms and heavy rains.
