WEB DESK: A thick blanket of fog disrupted traffic across several parts of the country on Tuesday, forcing the closure of multiple key motorways and expressways as authorities moved to ensure public safety.
According to the latest situation reports, the M-1 motorway has been closed for all traffic between Peshawar and Islamabad due to extremely low visibility. The M-2 motorway linking Lahore with Islamabad has also been shut down, stranding motorists and affecting intercity travel between Punjab and the federal capital.
In Punjab, several other major routes have been impacted. The M-3 motorway is closed from Darkhana to Faizpur, while the M-4 has been shut between Sher Shah and Pindi Bhattian. The M-11 motorway, which connects Lahore to Sambrial, has also been closed as dense fog continues to reduce visibility to hazardous levels.
Southern routes have not been spared either. The M-5 motorway remains closed from Sher Shah to Rohri, disrupting traffic between central Punjab and Sindh. Similarly, the M-14 motorway has been shut from Hakla to Isa Khel due to poor visibility caused by persistent fog.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, foggy conditions have led to the closure of the Hazara Motorway from Kohlian to Haripur. The Swat Expressway has also been closed from the Karnal Sher Khan Interchange to Katling, affecting travel in the Malakand region.
Authorities have advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, use fog lights where permitted, and follow official updates before planning journeys. The closures are expected to remain in place until visibility improves and conditions are deemed safe for traffic.
