Mountaineer Samina Baig makes history by completing ski journey to South Pole

ISLAMABAD: Mountaineer Samina Baig has achieved a remarkable and historic feat by successfully completing a skiing expedition to the South Pole, becoming the first Pakistani woman to accomplish this milestone.
Hailing from Shimshal in Gilgit-Baltistan, Samina Baig completed the long and arduous journey in extreme cold, harsh terrain and highly challenging weather conditions. The expedition was part of the internationally renowned Explorers Grand Slam Challenge, which involves conquering some of the world’s most remote and difficult destinations.
Speaking about her achievement, Samina Baig said the journey to the South Pole was the most difficult yet most meaningful experience of her life. She said every step of the expedition required confidence, patience and belief in one’s dreams, qualities that continued to strengthen her throughout the mission.
Addressing young women in particular, she said efforts to achieve one’s dreams never go to waste, and with strong determination, even the impossible can be made possible.
Samina Baig dedicated her success to her family, team and all those who supported her financially and emotionally, thanking them for their unwavering support.
She said carrying the Pakistani flag to the world’s highest peaks and now to the South Pole was a moment of immense pride and honour for her.
It is worth noting that Samina Baig has previously earned several international accolades. She is the first Pakistani woman to summit Mount Everest, K2, and all seven of the world’s highest peaks.
