The Multan Sultans are on the brink of making a high-profile comeback to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), as a franchise identity switch gathers momentum ahead of the 2026 season.
Sources reveal that CD Ventures has formally requested the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to rename the newly launched Sialkot Stallionz franchise as Multan Sultans. An official announcement from the PCB is expected soon, confirming the return of the South Punjab-based team.
The development comes after an ownership shake-up at Sialkot. OZ Developers, initially awarded the franchise during the league’s expansion, reportedly faced financial difficulties, paving the way for CD Ventures, led by Gohar Shah, to take near-total control. The new owners are now moving to revive an established brand rather than starting from scratch.
The Multan Sultans name became available after the previous franchise using it was rebranded as Rawalpindi following an ownership transfer involving Walee Technologies. For the league, the move promises a ready-made fan base, a clear home-ground narrative, and a marketable identity that resonates with South Punjab supporters.
PSL CEO Salman Naseer has indicated that the league will soon confirm details regarding the franchise’s new ownership and identity. Fans are eagerly awaiting the official word on the Sultans’ return.
