MULTAN: The death of a 15-year-old boy after being struck by a car in a private housing society in Multan has taken a new turn after police registered a murder case against two men, while a video containing an account by one of the suspects and eyewitnesses also surfaced on social media.

According to the first information report (FIR), the case was registered at DHA Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Liaquat Ali, with Tauqeer Nazir and Amjad Ali nominated as suspects.

The FIR alleged that the suspects deliberately drove a car, at 15-year-old Waseem Abbas with the intention of killing him.

According to the police account, Waseem’s head struck a pillar of a house and was crushed in the incident. The FIR further stated that the suspects attempted to flee after the vehicle failed to restart.

Police said an eyewitness managed to apprehend Tauqeer Nazir at the scene, while the second suspect escaped. However, an account attributed to Tauqeer in a video circulating on social media presented a different version of events.

Tauqeer claimed that Waseem had run away from the work site after refusing to listen to his instructor. He said the teenager had previously also run away and had been brought back.

According to Tauqeer’s version, the vehicle slipped while they were attempting to block Waseem’s path. Police have not confirmed this account, while the FIR treats the incident as an intentional killing.

Waseem was living at orphanage

The administration of a private orphanage said Waseem had been residing at the facility and had recently been sent to learn electrical work under contractor Tauqeer.

Waseem’s cousin Nadeem, who also lives at the orphanage, said he had been there for six years.

According to Nadeem, Waseem would sometimes say that he did not want to go to the electrician and instead wanted to return home. He said Waseem had stopped regularly returning to the orphanage after he began learning electrical work.

Nadeem said he did not personally know Tauqeer and had never met him.

Waseem’s maternal grandfather, who had placed the teenager in the orphanage and madrassa in the hope of securing his education and a better future, also addressed the media, demanding justice and accountability.

Teenager buried in ancestral graveyard

Waseem’s funeral prayers were offered late at night in Mauza Daulatpur, after which he was buried in his ancestral graveyard.

According to those associated with the orphanage, the funeral was held soon after the body was received because of its condition. Only close relatives and representatives of the orphanage attended the funeral prayers.

The case has drawn attention after videos purportedly showing the suspect and eyewitness accounts circulated online. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Waseem’s death, including the conflicting accounts of whether the vehicle struck him accidentally or was deliberately driven at him, as alleged in the FIR.
