MURREE: Landslides occurred at multiple locations on the Chara Gali-Bastal Road link following continuous monsoon rains, causing road blockages and trapping several vehicles. Murree Deputy Commissioner (DC) Agha Zaheer Abbas Sherazi said that emergency services were dispatched immediately after reports of falling stones and trees blocking the route.
As per initial reports, three to four vehicles, carrying eight to ten people, were stuck due to the landslide. Authorities responded and machinery from the National Logistics Cell (NLC) and the Highway Department was brought in to clear the debris. Rescue personnel used alternative routes to reach those affected, removing rocks and trees to access the site, DC Zaheer Sherazi said.
So far, 11 individuals have been rescued from the trapped vehicles, while one person was transported to Samli Hospital for treatment, sources familiar with the rescue operation said.
Another landslide, in Namb Jhanda Gali village, caused a large stone to fall on two houses. Emergency teams were sent to the location as well. DC Zaheer Sherazi said that rescue efforts are being carried out by the district administration in collaboration with local residents.
He said that all departments are active in the field and the district administration is on alert. He also urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with ongoing operations, warning that the risk of landslides remains due to continued monsoon rains.
