Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Murad Saeed has been disqualified from his Senate seat under Article 63(1)(h) of the Constitution, according to an official notification issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The electoral body confirmed that the decision was taken in accordance with the constitutional clause, which outlines grounds for disqualification of lawmakers.
Following the ruling, a formal notification has been released, effectively removing Murad Saeed from his position in the upper house of parliament. Further details regarding the basis of the disqualification were not immediately disclosed.
Saeed was appointed Federal Minister for Communications, and Federal Minister for Postal Services during the tenure of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf from late 2018 to early 2022.
Resignation from Senate
Murad Saeed, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, resigned from his Senate seat, calling on party lawmakers to also step down from all assemblies in protest against what he described as an illegitimate political system. In his resignation, he criticised parliament as a “rubber stamp” that undermines the public mandate and accused it of enabling unconstitutional forces.
Saeed, who was elected from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2025 but had not taken oath while in hiding, said lawmakers advocating for the party’s jailed founder were being suppressed. His resignation comes amid heightened political tensions, including protests by PTI supporters over the health of Imran Khan.
The government has announced plans to shift Khan to a hospital for medical treatment, but PTI has rejected the move without family consent and the presence of personal doctors. The party warned against any unilateral decisions regarding his care, intensifying the ongoing standoff between the government and opposition.
