TEHRAN: Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in Tehran on an unannounced official visit to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials, according to state media reports.
Interior minister Naqvi reached Tehran on Saturday, where he is expected to meet his Iranian counterpart and other top officials to discuss bilateral and regional matters, sources cited by Iran’s official news agency IRNA said.
Pakistani government sources also confirmed the visit, saying it follows earlier reports from Iranian media. However, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s Interior Ministry said the trip was already scheduled, without giving further details.
The visit marks Naqvi’s second trip to Iran in as many months, as Islamabad continues its diplomatic engagement with Tehran at a sensitive regional moment.
Earlier last month, Naqvi had also visited Iran alongside Chief of Defence Forces and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, where the delegation met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. During that meeting, Iran acknowledged Pakistan’s role in facilitating dialogue efforts between Tehran and Washington.

Pakistan has been acting as a mediator between the United States and Iran in an effort to de-escalate tensions following a conflict that escalated earlier this year. Islamabad had previously helped broker a brief ceasefire and hosted backchannel talks aimed at restarting direct negotiations.
According to diplomatic sources, while exchanges between both sides continue through Pakistan, differences remain over Iran’s nuclear programme. Tehran has reportedly proposed broader and separate talks on the issue, while expressing willingness for a temporary pause in uranium enrichment, but rejecting longer-term restrictions demanded by Washington.
Pakistan has expressed hope that diplomatic efforts will continue, even as both sides have yet to reach a final agreement to formally end the ongoing tensions in the region.
