Nation will “reap the harvest” of Faiz, Bajwa’s actions for years: Khawaja Asif

Bajwa wanted Faiz Hamid as army chief

WEB DESK: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has reacted to the 14-year sentence handed to former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed, saying the country will continue to face the consequences of decisions made by Hameed and former army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa.

In a statement on X, Asif said the “nation will reap for years the crop sown by Faiz Hameed and General Bajwa,” adding a prayer for accountability rooted in the fear of God. He urged those in power to remember that authority is a divine trust meant to serve the people.

Separately, Senator Faisal Vawda termed Faiz Hameed’s conviction “just the beginning,” saying the May 9 cases remain pending and facilitators will also be held accountable.

Earlier today, Former DG ISI Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed was sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment after a Field General Court Martial found him guilty on four charges, including involvement in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, misuse of authority and causing harm to civilians. This marks the first time a former ISI chief has received such a punishment. The court martial, conducted under the Pakistan Army Act, began in August 2024 and concluded after 15 months. The ISPR said Hameed was given full legal rights and may appeal. Separate investigations into his alleged political interference remain ongoing.
