Nationwide campaign launched against electricity theft

ISLAMABAD: In a significant move, a nationwide campaign against power theft has been initiated, with plans underway to compile a comprehensive list of areas where electricity theft is prevalent.
During an emergency meeting held with distribution companies, the Power Secretary made the decision to prepare a detailed inventory of regions reporting power theft incidents. Furthermore, a list will be created to identify individuals who resist compliance with anti-theft measures.
This crucial gathering brought together representatives from distribution companies and the Power Division Secretary, with the participation of chief secretaries from all regions and police chiefs from each province. Notable attendees included LESCO Chief Executive Officer Shahid Haider and Customer Services Director Rai Muhammad Asghar.
PPP ‘changes’ stance on holding elections
A spokesperson for LESCO emphasized the commitment to employing every available means to combat electricity theft, underscoring the forthcoming compilation of a list highlighting areas vulnerable to power theft. Additionally, another list will identify individuals who obstruct LESCO personnel tasked with preventing power theft.
In this endeavor, cooperation will be sought from law enforcement agencies, commissioners, deputy commissioners, and assistant commissioners. Those found to be engaging in misconduct toward LESCO staff and electricity thieves will face exemplary punishment, the spokesperson added.
