ISLAMABAD: PML-N President and Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the importance of infrastructure development and tourism promotion in Gilgit-Baltistan, saying both sectors are key to the region’s long-term progress.
Addressing the Gilgit-Baltistan Parliamentary Board meeting, he said PML-N has consistently worked for the welfare of the region, adding that no one understands Gilgit-Baltistan better than his party. He stressed that development projects, particularly road infrastructure, are not a favour but a basic necessity for the people.
Nawaz Sharif stressed that PM Shehbaz is giving special attention to the uplift of Gilgit-Baltistan, noting that his commitment to the region reflects his own vision.
Referring to ongoing projects, he said a road project worth over Rs60 billion has significantly reduced distances across the region, improving connectivity and boosting economic activity. He added that Gilgit-Baltistan holds immense tourism potential, with visitors from around the world eager to explore its natural beauty.
“We didn’t just make promises, we delivered through practical steps,” he said, pointing to continued development initiatives in Islamabad and Punjab while urging other provinces to follow suit.
Calling Gilgit-Baltistan as dear to him as the rest of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif reiterated that the region will not be left behind in the country’s development journey.
