Nawaz Sharif’s assets see a drastic decrease in last six years

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif witnessed a drastic decrease in his assets during the past six years. Having retained the status of a billionaire politician, former premier Sharif told the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that his assets decreased Rs1.7 billion during the said period.
The Hum Investigation Team got its hands on his latest nomination papers submitted with the Returning Officer in NA-130 Lahore, Nawaz Sharif revealed that he owned assets of around Rs80 million only. When he held the office of the country’s chief executive, he had declared that his assets stood at Rs1.85 billion in 2016.
Elections 2024: less appeals recorded in tribunals, compared to three previous polls
Nawaz and Kulsoom Nawaz’s assets remained closer to Rs2 billion since 2013. HIT research showed that Nawaz Sharif owned assets of Rs167 million in 2011, to Rs262 million in 2012 and jumped up to Rs1.8 billion in 2013. His assets swelled to Rs1.9 billion in 2014 and Rs1.84 billion in 2015.
How much tax Nawaz has paid in last three years?
Separately, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has revealed in a letter that former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has paid a total of Rs8,200 income tax in the last three years.
According to the nomination papers of Nawaz Sharif, which were received by our investigation team, FBR officer Naila Ashraf Khan has revealed in a letter that the former prime minister paid Rs4,664 tax in 2021, Rs1,062 tax in 2022, and Rs2,314 tax in 2023.
The nomination papers further reveal that Nawaz Sharif spent Rs8.2 million on his foreign trips in the last three years. The former prime minister visited Europe, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom.
In addition, Nawaz Sharif has also informed the ECP in his nomination papers that his bank profit tax was also deducted at Rs23,956 in 2021.
The bank profit tax was deducted at Rs2,125 in 2022 and Rs82,549 in 2023.
Nawaz Sharif has also said that he paid Rs136,283 tax on agriculture in 2021, Rs229,313 tax on agriculture in 2022, and Rs355,526 tax on agriculture in 2023.
