ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said an active weather system is expected to bring heavy rain to the upper parts of the country from Tuesday (tomorrow).

The NDMA has predicted heavy rainfall in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northeastern Punjab.

According to the NDMA, torrential rains are anticipated in Islamabad, the Pothohar region, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and northern Balochistan.

The weather system will also trigger heavy downpours in the upper catchment areas of the Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej rivers, the NDMA said.

As a result, a slight increase in water inflows is expected at the Tarbela and Mangla dams, along with a marginal rise in the flow of major rivers. However, the NDMA said that there is no imminent threat of large-scale riverine flooding across the country.

Despite the low risk to major rivers, the NDMA has issued warnings for localised flash flooding in hill torrents, streams, and low-lying urban areas.

Citizens residing in vulnerable urban centers have been advised to take precautions against potential waterlogging.

The NDMA has advised travelers and local populations in AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to exercise extreme caution over the coming days.
